ÌÇÐÄvlogÃÛÌÒ the Program
The ACGME-accredited and POSNA-accredited Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery fellowship program at ÌÇÐÄvlogÃÛÌÒ of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital includes broad-based exposure to all aspects of pediatric orthopedics.

The one-year fellowship includes training in:
- Congenital and developmental abnormalities of the spine, upper, and lower extremities
- Genetic and metabolic disorders, including osteogenesis imperfecta
- Brachial plexus and upper extremity congenital and acquired abnormalities
- Limb-length discrepancy and deformity
- Limb deficiencies and prosthetic management
- Non-operative and operative treatment of clubfoot
- Neuromuscular diseases and disorders, including cerebral palsy and myelodysplasia
- State-of-the-art motion analysis lab with multidisciplinary motion analysis team members from pediatric orthopaedics, pediatric physical medicine and rehabilitation, physical therapy, and bioenergetics.
- Musculoskeletal infections
- Scoliosis and spine deformity
- Hip preservation
- Pediatric orthopedic trauma and fractures
Additional emphasis is placed on all aspects of pediatric orthopedic trauma.
During this one-year fellowship, three fellows will spend time rotating through Texas Children’s Hospital. The faculty consists of over 30 full-time pediatric orthopedists involved in all areas of care.
We offer Grand Rounds, journal club, preoperative conferences and didactic lectures. Completion of at least one clinical research project leading to manuscript publication in a peer-reviewed orthopedics journal is required. Two projects are strongly encouraged.

Only completed applications through the SF Match are reviewed by the fellowship program director. The deadline is Dec. 31. All applicants are requested to submit an email address and a valid overnight address with a telephone number and a fax number.
- M.D. degree, graduate from an approved Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program
- Completed SF Match Fellowship Application Packet
- Letter of reference from the residency program director
- A Texas Medical License
- CPR (ACLS or ATLS) certification

- Four letters of recommendation, of which one must be from the dean of students at your medical college or a copy of the MSPE (Medical School Performance Evaluation)

- USMLE transcript (steps I, step II, and step III)

- Valid and current ECFMG Certificate; page notarized on the front of each page and containing the statement "notarized as a true copy of an original document"
- USMLE test results (steps I, II, III)
- TOEFL or ECFMG English exam results

Once the applicant's San Francisco Match Application file is complete, the fellowship selection committee reviews it. If the committee feels the applicant is competitive for our program, the applicant will be invited to a formal interview.
The Department of Orthopedic Surgery conducts interview sessions by appointment only. Each applicant is interviewed by all members of the section. A certified final rank list is submitted to the San Francisco Match before the match deadline by the program director. Match result notifications are distributed on the designated match day through the SF Match. All potential applicants are required to register with the SF Match to be considered.

Training Locations
The 12-month training program will occur at the various Texas Children’s Hospital locations. The majority of time will be spent the the main Texas Medical Center campus and the surrounding clinical care offices. Specialty rotations will occur at the West campus and Woodlands campus.
