Professional Statement

Dr. Iyza F. Baig is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Cullen Eye Institute and ÌÇÐÄvlogÃÛÌÒ of Medicine. She graduated with honors from Rice University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in both Biological Sciences and Hispanic Studies. As an undergraduate student, Dr. Baig qualified to volunteer as a medical Spanish interpreter at Ben Taub Hospital, despite being a non-native speaker. She was recognized by Rice University for her excellence in Spanish language and service work with the Cervantes Award in 2015. Dr. Baig then matriculated at McGovern Medical School, where she dedicated her free time to starting a volunteer program at a free eye clinic for un-insured patients, and publishing numerous papers with renowned researchers in the field of ophthalmology. She went on to complete her residency in ophthalmology at one of the top training programs in the country: ÌÇÐÄvlogÃÛÌÒ of Medicine. In October 2023, Dr. Baig joined the Baylor faculty and began her role as Deputy Chief of Ophthalmology at Ben Taub Hospital.

Dr. Baig’s clinical interests include cataract surgery, medical treatment of glaucoma, and cataract surgery combined with minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries such as ab-interno goniotomy, Hydrus microstent, OMNI and Streamline surgical systems. She has special interest in indigent care and resident education, staffing the majority of resident cataract surgeries at Ben Taub Hospital.
