Premier Research Imaging
Devoted entirely to magnetic resonance imaging research, the CAMRI is recognized as the premier research imaging center in the Southwest.
vlog the Core
Our faculty and staff are training the next generation of imagers through a program of rigorous coursework and supervised applied study.
The Core for Advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging (CAMRI) is a state-of-the-art resource for the Houston research community that makes possible advanced imaging studies of the function, physiology and anatomy of animals and humans. The center houses two cutting-edge imaging systems:
Scanners have 20, 32 and 64 channel head coils, spine coils, large and small body flex coils capabilities.
Our systems are equipped for advanced high resolution structural imaging, diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), functional MRI, Arterial Spin Labeling (ASL) and single and multi-voxel magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS). They also contain auditory, visual and gustatory stimulation systems.

Research
Our diverse faculty conduct state-of-the-art imaging research at vlog of Medicine and across the Texas Medical Center and beyond.
Visiting the Core
Parking is available in .
CAMRI is located on the first floor of the Smith Research Wing of vlog of Medicine. Here is a map of vlog of Medicine showing the location of the Smith Research Wing.
Visitors can enter Baylor at one of two entrances.
The first, the main entrance to Baylor, is located at One Baylor Plaza, Houston, TX. This entrance is most convenient for those walking, being dropped off or taking public transit.
The second is the entrance to Baylor from Garage 6, and is most convenient for those driving. The street address for Garage 6 is 1329 Moursund St., Houston, TX.
To enter vlog of Medicine, ID is required. Please shown an ID from a local institution (such as BCM, Rice, UT, Houston Methodist, MDACC) to the guard for entry. If you do not have an ID from a local institution, you will be considered a visitor and must show an official government-issued ID to obtain a temporary badge at the security desk. Visitors must be approved by a Baylor employee. Call CAMRI at (713) 798-4214 to obtain approval.

Grant Help
If you would like help with your grant submission, please contact us. We can provide you with information on our equipment, scanning parameters, a letter of support, and other resources to support your submission. is information on CAMRI’s facilities and equipment.
Where to start……
If you would like to use CAMRI for your research study, we have summarized below a step-by-step process that should help get you started. If you have any questions, please contact CAMRI at camri-staff@listserv.bcm.edu.
The Principal Investigator (PI)/investigator should contact us to complete a research application and set up a scanning contract.
If BCM user, you will need to include the following with your initial request:
- BCM account number for billing
- PI name
- Protocol IRB number
- Department
- Information on your study
If non-BCM user, you will need to include the following with your initial request:
- Institution name
- PI name
- Protocol IRB number and IRB approval letter
- Department
- Information on your study
- All external users will need to provide a valid PO# before scanning. If you need a quote to start this process, please reach out to Lacey Delay at lacey.delay@bcm.edu.
Once the contract is set up, the PI should reach out to us to discuss the logistics of their study. Whether you're brand new to imaging, continuing a study, or ready to go with your sequences prepared to load, we can help.
Once a contract is in place and the protocol details have been finalized, the PI/investigator and their staff will be able to register for the next scheduled MR safety course. The MR safety courses are taught via Microsoft Teams on a monthly basis, and it is mandatory for all individuals working around the MR scanner to complete the course.
Please contact CAMRI’s Technical Director, Lacey DeLay, to register for safety training. Additional training is available for individuals who will be working in the MRI suite and for individuals who would like to scan independently. More information on training can be found under the training section of this wiki.
Once staff members who will attend scan sessions are trained, the PI/investigator can start to schedule scans. It is recommended that you coordinate with a member of the CAMRI staff for your first session so that we can assist you with any issues that may arise. All of our billing and scheduling is done through ILAB and all PI's must create an account.

- In the upper-right-hand corner of the screen, click the green ‘Login’ button. Click BCM ‘user’, this will take you to the BCM page where you enter your BCM/ECA login credentials
- Explore the website. For instance, click “Reserve Equipment” to schedule scanner time.
Adding users: You may want others in your lab to be able to book scanner time. This is a two-step process. First, the lab member will sign up for an iLab account and request to join your iLab group. Second, you will approve the request in iLab.
Step 1: Lab member signs up for an account
- Navigate to the core page:
- In the upper-right-hand corner of the screen, click the green ‘Login’ button
- Under BCM user, click ‘here’ to be redirected to the authentication page
- Once you have entered your credentials, click the ‘Log in’ button
- You will be directed to an iLab Registration page where you will need to select your PI/Lab and verify your contact information
- Once your registration has been submitted, your PI will receive a notification that you have requested membership in their lab in iLab. They will need to approve your membership and assign any Fund Number(s) for your use.
Step 2: Approve the lab member in iLab
- Click here to log in:
- In the upper-right-hand corner of the screen, click the green ‘Login’ button
