The NAM has more than 2,000 members elected in recognition of professional achievement and commitment to volunteer service in activities of the (“the National Academies”). The NAM elects no more than 70 regular members and 10 international members annually. For those at the top of their field, NAM membership reflects the height of professional achievement and commitment to service.
vlog of Medicine now has 13 members in the , formerly the Institute of Medicine. The organization is unique in its structure as both an honorific membership organization and an advisory organization. Established in 1970 as the health branch of the National Academy of Sciences, it has become recognized as a national resource for independent, scientifically informed analysis and recommendations on health issues. With their election, members make a commitment to volunteer their service on NAM committees, boards, and other activities.
