The stem cell core at ÌÇÐÄvlogÃÛÌÒ of Medicine offers two embryonic stem cell lines (WA01 and WA09) originally from WiCell and one retroviral iPSC line generated at Baylor by Dr. Thomas Zwaka (hiPS TZ16). New iPSC lines generated from healthy donors using integration-free Sendai virus and episomal vectors are being continually added to our cell bank inventory.

QC Services
The core also offers quality control services for investigator-generated cell lines such as:
- Karyotyping by G-banding analysis
- STR fingerprinting
- Analysis of OCT4/SSEA4 by flow cytometry
- Embryoid body formation
- Mycoplasma testing
- hPSC Scorecard Analysis
The Human Stem Cell Core at ÌÇÐÄvlogÃÛÌÒ of Medicine offers quality control testing of Baylor and collaborator generated cell lines. The core also offers a variety of quality control services from alkaline phosphatase assays to teratoma formation assays. The core has the experience and expertise to perform the assays as well as consult investigators.
Teratoma Formation Assay
The teratoma assay is a functional assay to prove pluripotency. The ability of the cells to induce the formation of a Teratoma containing all three distinct germ layers, gives confidence of the cells ability to differentiate. The cells are processed and injected into SCID mice, the mice are observed for the formation of a teratoma and processed accordingly.

Fluorescence-Activated Cell Sorting (FACS Oct / SSEA-4 Double Labeled)
Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH)
The stem cell core at ÌÇÐÄvlogÃÛÌÒ of Medicine offers banked and QC tested cells. The cells are offered in a variety of formats: frozen, 6-well plates and many others. The cells will be provided when availability allows this is dependent on passaging and requirements.
